Our New Camp Counselor Ginny Tells The Story of #SCamp15 Through SCampers Tweets

For me, a major part of Summer Camp is getting excited by engaging my fellow SCampers on social media. I’ve been tweeting about Summer Camp for years, because to me EVERYONE should come experience it – especially if like me, you’re an avid Umphrey’s fan.

Earlier this year, in the #ScampMeansToMe contest, I highlighted how Summer Camp to me means I have to be prepared. https://youtu.be/VzwULtLiJH0 This means throughout the year, I’m tweeting up a storm about my festival planning (or lack thereof this year) and just general excitement about the festival. On those long days stuck at work, I dream of dancing in the dirt to Umphrey’s with thousands of other people. Tweeting about it makes me feel like I’m that much closer to being there. In the couple of weeks leading up to the festival, I am in a frenzy of trying to work a ton of hours to make up for being gone, and also trying to get everything together. Despite threats on the Facebook page, we made it to Summer Camp safe and sound. We were stoked to see some of the changes made to the Summer Camp site this year! During the day Friday, all of the Camp Counselors had the opportunity to go on stage to help announce moe. before their first set. This was without a doubt one of the coolest experiences of my life. We all look so excited! I love the community that I found not only with other counselors, but all of Summer Camp. Friday during the day also signaled the first day of Umphrey’s McGee related activities, starting with the Golden Ticket event with a first glimpse at the Nothing Too Fancy Pale Ale that Umphrey’s debuted at Summer Camp. I hadn’t seen Umphrey’s McGee since their 2000th show in November, so my excitement was overflowing by the time the sun set. Friday night was like a dream, with a whole bunch of Umphrey’s McGee. They played their Godboner set with Gene Ween. So much great music and beautiful people everywhere I turned. I always make sure to eat really well at Summer Camp. It keeps me fueled for activities all day and night! Festivals turn into a big blur of joy and the days all run together. Two of my favorite performances of the weekend (besides Umphrey’s) were JRAD and Greensky Bluegrass. On Sunday, I got to participate in one of the best things I did at Summer Camp this year by supporting my old college friend and fellow Camp Counselor Jason at the hole-in-one challenge. Jason had a severe medical issue a few weeks before Summer Camp, and it was wonderful to see the community rally around him and support him. You can still visit his GoFundMe to help a longtime Summer Camp vet with his medical expenses. Monday always rolls around too quickly, and then it’s time to CLEAN UP and go home. Then start scheming for next year!! I love seeing everyones tweets and posts in the weeks following Summer Camp. With another year of Summer Camp Music Festival in the books, and my first one as Camp Counselor, I am ready to take on the next year and see who I will be when I attend Summer Camp 2016. ]]>
