Camp Counselor Bailey Gets FUNKY With Here Come The Mummies at Capital City Ribfest in Lincoln, NE

Maybe its the music lover in me, maybe it’s the theatre nerd…or maybe it’s the inner dirty girl coming out to play… Up until this year’s drive to Three Sisters Park, I had never listened to Here Come The Mummies…in fact I had never heard of their existence until their name caught my eye on the lineup. I watched a couple YouTube videos to kill some time on the road and I made a mental note to be sure to check out their set. As any festival goer knows, attending shows on Sunday evening after days of fun and excitement isn’t always easy. However, my crew mustered up every ounce of energy left within us to make the trek over to the Starshine Stage and witnessed one of the most impressive performances I saw all weekend!

Here Come The Mummies have been providing fans with Terrifying Funk From Beyond The Grave since 2002. Each Mummy has their own persona, however their true identities are one of the music industry’s best-kept secrets. With their raunchy lyrics, suggestive dance moves, and elaborate costumes, there is absolutely nothing not to love about Here Come The Mummies! They have an incredible energy presence; you can’t look away for even a second or you’re bound to miss something. On top of it all, they have the tightest and crispest funk sound I have ever heard. This might have something to do with the rumored fact that this group is comprised of “reincarnated Grammy-winning studio musicians.” Naturally I was beyond excited to find out the Mummies were booked to play in my hometown of Lincoln NE. Previously known as a food festival with a little live music, Capital City Ribfest has become a full on Food and Music festival where food and music lovers of all ages unite to enjoy some of the best barbecue and music from across the nation. This year marks the 19th Annual Capital City Ribfest and countless Lincolnites were thrilled about the return of Here Come The Mummies as Saturday night’s headlining act.
Excitement flowed through my whole body as I waited in the photo pit for the Mummies to finish their drum line march through the crowd and get up on the stage. Being up close and personal and having some of the Mummies interact with me sure was thrilling! Once I put my camera away, I made my way up front and center to get down and dirty for the remainder of the concert. After the show some of the Mummies came out to sign autographs and take selfies with the fans. I even got a big hug from Java Mummy which left a nice big splotch of red paint on my neck (which I didn’t even notice until the end of the night!) The excitement and adrenaline from the show kept me dancing until the moment my head hit the pillow. This was by far one of the best shows I have seen all year. I loved my second Here Come The Mummies experience so much, that I made the 2 hour journey to the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines to do it all over again!
So, is it the music lover in me? Is it the theatre nerd? Or is it the inner dirty girl? I think it’s all of the above! The music lover in me is absolutely amazed by their clean, high-energy funk sound. Every single song has me feeling upbeat and excited and they keep me dancing all night long! The theatre nerd in me is extremely impressed by the characters they have created, their flawless costumes, and their perfectly executed choreography. Each mummy has their own distinct personality, which is very apparent by how they interact with the crowd, as well as with each other on stage.
Some songs contain suggestive sexual undertones, and some songs are just blatantly dirty. Their lyrics and dance moves are bawdy, and the dirty girl in me just loves it all! With all the shows I’ve caught this summer and all the times I’ve listened to their music over the last few months, I have found a band that fits my personality like a glove. They have made my life feel like an Everlasting Party all summer long…and I don’t see that stopping any time soon!
There are still plenty of opportunities this fall to get in touch with your dirty side. Check out Here Come The Mummies’ upcoming tour dates! Believe me, these Mummies are something you do not want to miss!
