Camp Counselor Alex's All-Time 15 Favorite Moe. Songs

2015 tour is their 25th, and the band has been rocking Summer Camp Music Festival since it’s inception. That’s 15 years of history at Three Sisters Park, and another 10 before that since forming in 1989 at the University of Buffalo. Since the release of their first album Fatboy in 1992, these guys have produced a total of 11 studio albums. Between those 11 albums and the 25 years of improvisational history, it’s certain no two “All-Time Favorite” Moe. Songs or Moe.ments lists would look the same. As a Summer Camp Counselor, I’ve been lucky to witness more than a few amazing live Moe. performances, and with winter in full swing I’ve been digging in to their recorded history as well. So in the spirit of the 15th Annual Summer Camp, I am glad to share with you my 15 favorite Moe. songs… and for a few, videos or even a few thoughts on why. Starting at number fifteen…

15) Capt America

To me, this song reflects the situation of living within the sociopolitically correct times of today. Viewpoints of life might be right.. or they may be wrong. Either way, we are stuck experiencing these times as it is. The government, taking away liberties telling people how to run their lives. If you have an opposing viewpoint you might end up dead. It’s suicide. This is just my grasp of the song, I may be right.. I may be wrong.

14) Annhilation Blues

13) Kyle’s Song

12) Four

GREAT guitar work and choice of effects by the boys. The ghost note snare groove is such a fun counterpart that brings a jazzalicious recipe to the table while maintaining that psychedelic feel. The lyrics are quite simple yet the riddle of the four dogs remain…

11) Sticks and Stones

Such a powerful and positive message of not getting wrapped up in what others have to say… If something has you in a funk… just let this inspiring tune melt those problems away.

10) Tailspin

9) St Augustine

Bring in the slide guitars, a quick beat tempo, some high appraisal to the creator, and don’t run from that light because they are a comin’ for you..

8) All Roads Lead to Home

Home. Such a beautiful concept… or is it a place, oh ya… it’s SUMMER CAMP!!!! summer-camp-photo

7) Crab Eyes

6) Y.O.Y.

This song is an instant classic from the guys. I have had their debut album, “Fatboy,” for years and love hearing this opening track every time it comes on. Such a great start from a legendary band.

5) Ok Alright

4) Cathedral

Within these temple walls lies my mind. Open these cathedral doors to find that nature and the world outside is my church… I am not limited to walls. I am free. Childlike, experiencing all that there is to see.

3) Rebubula

This song just screams Summer Camp… and is such an epic jam. It sums up the experience of going through hell in order to get to heaven… which is something we all kind of face in the trials of getting through each winter and to Summer Camp. 576850_418803684819486_1477477605_n

2) Yodelittle

This song has so much quirk to it’s being served to you by the pounds.

1) Zoz

This has always been my all-time favorite jam by Moe. I am sure you might have also noticed that this is the 4th song I have listed that came off their album, “Sticks and Stones.” Yes, that is my favorite album by these guys too. Those mallets, energy, breakdown, and vibes are incomparable. Diving deep into gratitude, passion, and reflection with a hint of the raw power of rock. This song offers so much!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBdyTAmdssY Have a top 15 suggestion you’d like me to consider? Let me know on Twitter!]]>
