Camp Counselor Carmel Lists the 5 Shoes You Should Bring to Any Festival

Guys like to believe a girl’s obsession with shoes is frivolous, but taking care of your feet is essential to having a good time at any festival. Your feet are the vehicle that gets you from show to show all weekend long. Taking care of them from the moment you park your car and start hauling in your gear should be a top priority. The wrong pair of shoes could very easily ruin the rest of your weekend. So without ado, here are the top 5 shoes EVERYONE must bring to a music festival!

1.) Your Move-In Shoes

These are your classic go-to option with plenty of support and durability. You want something that can withstand the elements: rain, dust, rocks, and mud. These will be the main pair of shoes you wear over the course of the festival so make sure they are worn in and comfortable. Whenever your other shoes fail, these shoes should be your back up pair. Keep in mind that a new pair of shoes is probably a bad decision because there is a 95% chance they will get disgustingly filthy almost immediately.

2.) Your Sandals

sandlesThis open-toed option is another necessity for your feet, especially if it’s HOT! Once again, comfort and durability should be a top priority with choosing the right pair of sandals. I do NOT recommend wearing open-toed shoes when you move your gear from your car to your campsite because there is a good chance your feet will get torn up along the way, tragically ruining your journey before it even begins.

3.) Some Shower Shoes

Toe fungus, warts, and athletes foot are all communicable diseases that spread easily in communal showers, so if you plan on taking a shower while at a festival, MAKE SURE YOU WEAR SHOES! Style and comfort need not be a priority here, so these shoes can be cheap, disposable flip flops. They don’t take up too much space when packing, yet they are extremely practical.

4) Your Rain Boots

Every festival veteran knows that even if the weather doesn’t call for rain, you should still pack your rain gear. I usually don’t even bring the stuff to my campsite until it’s necessary, but once the rain comes, you will be happy to have rain boots on hand. After all, the music still goes on rain or shine, so unless you feel like standing in puddles of water and getting trench foot, water proof shoes are one of the best things to pack. Bottom line, always bring rain boots, no mater what! (Pro Tip: never Google “trentch foot”)

5) Some Backup Shoes

While you might have the perfect pair of shoes at the beginning of your trip, dancing around and stomping your feet can really take it’s toll. Blisters are usually the most common ailment festival-goers will face. Sometimes just switching up your shoes when your feet need a break can make all the difference. Overall, comfort and safety should always trump style, and remember you’ll have to be ok with any pair of shoes getting completely destroyed over the course of the weekend… but at least it’s your shoes getting destroyed and not your feet!]]>
