Jason Isbell is like a modern day troubadour. This singer-songwriter was birthed out of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and there’s a distinct southern essence that runs through his backwoods americana style. Though he currently resides in Nashville, there is nothing mainstream about this artist. He spent six years as a member of Drive by Truckers before embarking on a solo career in 2007. Since then Isbell has recorded five critically acclaimed albums on his own and currently tours with a full live backing band that also includes his wife, violinist Amanda Shires. Isbell’s lyrical prowess likens Bob Dylan and Neil Young with the way he sews his words together in order to form timeless ballads about love, loss, and the pain of just getting by. His addition to the Summer Camp lineup will be part of this festival’s legacy for many years to come and I highly recommend catching his set!

Earphorik

Earphorik from Indiana caught my eye on the Third Artist Announcement for Summer Camp Music Festival 2016. Back in February, I went to a Lotus afterparty in Milwaukee where Earphorik was playing. Not only did I hear them cover familiar Summer Camp veterans such as Umphrey’s Mcgee, Mike Greenfield from Lotus even stopped by to hang out in the crowd as Earphorik was playing.
After some post show digging, I discovered that Earphorik has even further connections to Umphrey’s Mcgee. Earphorik is currently working on an album for release in May that was recorded at Jake Cinninger’s studio, Boon Dock Studio in Michigan. Looking forward to hearing Earphorik’s new music, both live at Summer Camp and in their upcoming album.

SIMO
Simo from Nashville, Tennessee is bringing their psychedelic blues rock sound to Summer Camp. I had to go look them up after the third announcement of artists dropped, and I’d have to say I was not disappointed. For guitarists out there that are interested in vintage gear, JD Simo used the iconic 1957 Les Paul that Duane Allman used to record the first two Allman Brother’s LP. Although I have not had a chance to see Simo live, this is one of my must-see artists of Summer Camp Music Festival 2016. I have not stopped listening to their 2016 album: “
Let Love Show The Way”

Wailers
Envision a “Tree of Music” with all the different bands having a lineage of sound. The Wailers are one of those bands that without them at the base branch, makes the tree weak. Reggae and the artists that have been influenced by that sound owe much to the legend of Bob Marley and The Wailers. Since their creation in 1963 and continuing on after Marley’s death in 1981, the band has developed into a tight knit family sharing that “one love” vibe that many have gotten to know and grow with.

Van Ghost
Chicago-based
Van Ghost is one of my favorite 2015 Summer Camp discoveries. Jennifer Hartswick’s soothing vocals are a personal favorite that I use to carry me through the long days when all I need is to relax. Their innovative music brings together cutting edge sounds that combine a jam band presence with jazz & funk influences. This is certainly one band that you won’t want to miss and one that I will be at with my family.

MarchFourth Marching Band
The
MarchFourth Marching Band is so much more than just a band. MarchFourth! is an entertainment experience that is taking the music scene by storm. This exciting to see performance team not only incorporates a full scale 20 member marching band, but also has artisans and dancers. This is one new experience that I’m excited to have at the 2016 Summer Camp.
