Camp Counselor Carmel Interviews Charlie Otto of This Must Be The Band

This Must Be The Band front man, Charlie Otto, took a break from touring to answer a few simple questions to help get us excited for Summer Camp 2014! Did you go to summer camp as a kid? Totally. Tennis was a staple. Do you have any big summer plans this year? I’m gonna walk around Lake Michigan. What are some artist or bands you hope to see perform live over the summer? I never plan that kinda stuff.  I just let whatever random band help me have fun whenever I’m in the mood.  What’s your favorite summer time beverage? Water.  Sorry, it’s water.  What is your favorite festie food? I was at a fest and there were these donuts that were carazy. It turned out the trailer was called “This Must be the Place.”  That didn’t make the donuts taste better, but that’s probably because they were already perfect. How many times have you been to Summer Camp Music Festival and what is your favorite part about the fest? 5 times this year, I’m guessing. I like people. Pretty much any person will do. What is your favorite Scamp memory? Our first time playing there in 2009, afterwards our percussionist Sweeney and I played a nasty round of leapfrog while Girl Talk played some Missy Elliott. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOeyaxGNLFg What are you most looking forward to at Summer Camp 2014? Playing. Last year we got rained out and I still talk to lots of angry mob-like people.  This year we will be playing twice the show we played last year to make up for it. Plus DJ noDJ, which closes our set, is a thousand times better than last time we were there.  So very much fun, can’t wait to share that with people. I know you just cover Talking Heads music with TMBTB but do you have any new music coming out this year? My original band Grood has new music coming out all the time.  The music is so good and great and I’m in such a hurry that I had to combine those two words together, so it’s Grood. I’m writing the answers to this interview while in Jackson, WY, because I’m about to play a show up here. The air is thin and there are mountains literally everywhere, they don’t give you any break. I’m somewhat looking forward to flatass Chilicothe.]]>
