Previewing The Headliners (and more) in Summer Camp's Third Round of Artists for 2014

3rd-round-full-lineupAs we quickly approach the yearly pilgrimage to Three Sisters Park for Summer Camp, the gifts just keep on coming. Not satisfied with just any lineup, Summer Camp has again added to an already stellar group for their Third Round of Artist Announcements! The internet was abuzz on Friday after fans learned that Blues Traveler, Girl Talk, and G. Love would all be making the trek to Chillicothe for the Memorial Day Weekend festivities. See the newest additions to the left, and the full lineup here. Let’s take a closer look at a few of the top bands who were just announced!

Blues Traveler

Perhaps the most surprising and wide reaching band added to this year’s Summer Camp was jam stalwart Blues Traveler. Lead by John Popper this group of well-traveled musicians first formed in 1987. Together they have done it all, from spearheading the monumental H.O.R.D.E. Festival to selling millions of albums worldwide. While songs like “Hook” and “Run Around” vaulted this band into stardom, it is their focus on musicianship that makes them worth watching. Blues Traveler is sure to put on an epic set at Summer Camp, with a solid mix of old and new.

Girl Talk

A prolific music producer who is known for his mash-up style and digital sampling, Girl Talk is not one to miss. Often he invites a large crowd of fans to dance along side him on stage as he performs his set of music. His style is utterly danceable as he combines recognizable songs with mind-bending beats. Throughout the years Girl Talk’s focus has evolved, but his delivery is always predictably amazing. Go see him at Summer Camp and prepare to enter the Mother Ship. http://youtu.be/e9WKpfCMXhY

Matisyahu

Orthodox Jews don’t usually pursue the life of an MC, however that is exactly what Matisyahu had done. He blends elements of Hebrew, Reggae, Rock, and more into his breakneck delivery. His style may be unique but his performances are utterly stunning. He has toured the world including many stops in Israel; he is a positive voice for the Jewish community. Beyond that he is a serious rapper who pushes his craft each time he takes the stage.

Everyone Orchestra

Again the Everyone Orchestra will return to Summer Camp. As their name implies they are an impromptu ‘super group.’ The lineup changes with each performance, but the one constant is conductor, Matt Butler. Under his emblazoned top hat he leads a group of diverse but talented musicians through the murky waters of collaboration. Often taking suggestions from the audience Butler will write a word or feeling on his small white board in order to lead the group to a musical translation. For the last several years they have been a part of Make A Difference at Summer Camp, playing a private show in the barn for attendees who took part. http://youtu.be/xUgBETY0M9Y If you like unexpected and utterly unique musical collaborations, don’t miss the Everyone Orchestra.

New Orleans Suspects

The New Orleans Suspects are a veritable who’s who of NOLA funk and brass ensembles. Neville Brothers drummer “Mean” Willie Green, The Radiators’ Reggie Scanlan, Dirty Dozen’s Jake Eckert, CR Gruver, and James Brown’s Bandleader Jeff Watkins all make up this super group. They are true ambassadors of the New Orleans sound. If you dig the funk and love the music of NOLA go see this band at Summer Camp. http://youtu.be/FC2JNLH7Bfc

The Wood Brothers

Returning to Chillicothe The Wood Brothers will be sharing their brand of juicy Americana with fans at SCamp. Chris Wood of Medeski, Martin, & Wood fame, joins with is brother Oliver Wood and drummer Jano Rix to created this intimate musical experience that leaves music lovers fulfilled. Their late night sets at the Campfire Stage have been legendary over the years, and they are a welcome addition to the Summer Camp 2014 Lineup. http://youtu.be/qbL49WhppYc There were so many more great bands across numerous genres announced last Friday. Check out Camp Counselor Carmel’s run down of a few of the (possibly lesser known, but most likely the reason you are going) bands! Again it just seems that Summer Camp is never content with the routine. They are constantly pushing the limits of the fest with awesome bands and innovative activities. Summer Camp continues to offer one of the best festival experiences in the Midwest. I continue to be impressed with the quality of music available in one location over four days. Summer Camp 2014 is sure to be an amazing experience in the heart of the heartland!]]>
