Camp Counselor Carmel Highlights 5 Acts on the 2016 Lineup

Spotify playlist that I am dying to check out!:

Earphorik – Saturday, May 28, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Camping Stage

If Widespread Panic and Umphrey’s McGee were to procreate, their love child would undoubtedly be called Earphorik. Hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Earphorik is one of the jam scene’s newest up and coming progressive rock bands. After recording their latest album “The Boondock Sessions” with the help of Jake Cinninger from Umphrey’s McGee, the Umphrey’s community has started to take notice. Earphorik’s diverse style with aggressive prowess has proven that this band embodies the next generation of “improg” music and to see them live is to see the magic of progressive jamming in all its glory. They have been hitting the road throughout the Midwest and are now starting to leave their mark on the festival circuit. I have a good feeling we will be seeing much more of this band in the years to come and I can’t wait to catch their set on the Camping Stage (aka my favorite stage). https://soundcloud.com/earphorik/the-looking-glass

Fruition – Sunday, May 29, 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the Camping Stage

This five piece unit is based out of Portland, Oregon and I originally heard about them from a distant cousin who moved out west. She sent me a message a few months ago, “Hey you should check out Fruition, I think you’d really like them…” Needless to say, I’ve been digging on their sound ever since, but this Summer Camp will be the first time I finally get to see them live! Their recently released “Labor of Love” is a beautiful mix of bluegrass, folk, blues, and jam with both male and female vocals that blanket poetic lyrics. This is Fruition’s first time playing Summer Camp Music Festival. https://open.spotify.com/album/65pOrhLJYF7Dd2WsgdL6NE

The London Souls – Friday, May 27, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Starshine Stage AND Thursday Pre-Party 1:30 am – 3:00 am at the Campfire Stage

While this band already played Summer Camp Music Festival in 2014, I didn’t know who they were at the time and totally spaced on their set. Well, now that I’ve seen the error in my ways, there is no way I am missing them this year. Their simplistic style likens The White Stripes and The Black Keys with a stripped down live show that builds from within. Expect stank face guitar solos and infectious rhythms that will please any music lover’s ear. While I am kinda bummed their set will overlap with moe.’s on Friday afternoon, I am thrilled The London Souls will also be playing a late night set at the Campfire Stage Thursday Pre-party!

Mike Dillon’s New Orleans Punk Rock Percussion Consortium – Saturday, May 28, 12:30 am – 1:30 am at the Campfire Stage

This act isn’t entirely new to me. I first caught Mike Dillon in 2013 when I cut through the woods on a quest for an ice cream cone from Uncle Bob’s ice cream truck. He was playing to an intimate audience at the Camping Stage and Jim Loughlin of moe. just so happened to be sitting in. Since then I have always been intrigued by what this artist has been up to. His style is intense and weird, balancing the line between noise and unique, beautiful music. His weapon of choice is a vibraphone which makes his sound singular, especially within the live music community, and his latest album “Functioning Broke” highlights his distinct vision. I’ll be honest and let you know that I have no idea what the New Orleans Punk Rock Percussion Consortium is all about, but I can’t wait to find out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtbW6Gl_oGU

Rising Appalachia – Friday, May 27, 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm at the Campfire Stage

This sister duo is the product of the traditional folk music that rose out of the mountain ranges of the southeast. Over the years they’ve been building melodies over banjo licks, simple back beats, and mastering soft folk harmonies that liken smiles and sunshine. Their message is ingrained in their lyrics with a deep respect for nature and a desire to connect with their audience on a spiritual level. This will be Rising Appalachia’s first time playing Summer Camp Music Festival and I have a feeling it won’t be their last. There is so much great music on the 2016 lineup that it is really hard to choose which acts to catch while at the festival. As one of your Summer Camp Counselors, I highly encourage you to dig deep into the official Summer Camp Playlist and discover some new music to see live over Memorial Day Weekend! https://open.spotify.com/user/summercampfest/playlist/7o1DhALM1KVmUpUjQPTR7q]]>
