Manic Focus released a brand new LP, “Minds Rising.” To coincide with the new release, the veteran Summer Camp performer hosted a 2 night run at the Miramar Theater in Milwaukee, WI.
Just to show how hyped the Manic Focused-Minds are for their funktronic producer, both nights were sold out!
I was lucky enough to attend the first night, and was thrilled to see that local Milwaukee producer Plaid Hawaii was also on the bill to open. But before Plaid Hawaii laid down his tropidelic beats, Mike Daum (guitarist for jamtronica legends Particle) took the stage for his solo production. Daum is certainly one to keep an eye and ear out for. Having come from a jam background with Roster McCabe, Daum is no stranger to slaying the axe, which provides the perfect synergy as he carefully cultivates a unique sound in live electronic house music – view more clips of his music on his Instagram.
Now I have hyped Plaid Hawaii up before as a name to be familar with. Plaid Hawaii is a house producer, mixing in synthesized psychedelic beach vibes to create an uplifting jam theme trance you can’t help but do a raging luau dance to, being careful not to spill your double-fist feature of a piña colada and mai tai. He plays a live bass guitar, and for the end of his set, welcomed Mike Daum for some soaring guitar licks, as well as Manic Focus drummer Jake Barinholtz for the grounding, pounding dance rhythm. FUN FACT: This portion of the night was a SCamp jam reunion of sorts: Jake Barinholtz used to drum for The Coop, who appeared at 5 straight Summer Camps from 2009-2013. Mike Daum also rocked #SCamp13 with Roster McCabe, and Jason Womp (Plaid Hawaii) played bass for Undercover Organism, an On The Road winner and performer for #SCamp14. Interesting how three Midwest jam artists end up on stage for a sold-out EDM show…

Manic Focus returning to Chillicothe this May for his 5th straight Summer Camp appearance is not by accident. Manic Focus actually has a “MFin” band, and JmaC is the electro-soul producer who is far from your typical DJ (read his comments on the subject from our 2015 interview here!). He creates all of his own beats, and shares the stage with previously mentioned drummer Jake Barinholtz, and guitarist Patrick Riley. Manic Focus also welcomed Chicago-based nu pop singer Carlile onto the stage for a few songs, including their Minds Rising collaboration “Timeless.” MF also threw some love to SCamp legends Umphrey’s McGee – check out a remix of “Booth Love”!
