Camp Counselor Alex F Shares His "15 Must-See Acts at Summer Camp 2015"

Rolling Stones “50 Must-See Festival of 2015”! Well, in the spirit of Summer Camp’s 15th birthday, I would like to share with you SCampers my “15 Must See Acts at Summer Camp 2015”!

15) Future Rock

These Chicago natives know how to get the party started right – I have seen them play every Thursday Pre-Party since my first Summer Camp. This year will be no exception, and I recommend checking them out if you’re joining us for the Thursday Pre-Party… and if not, do not fret! They will certainly be scheduled for another killer set throughout the weekend.

14) Papadosio

This will be their 4th appearance at Summer Camp and I still have NOT seen them live, somehow. Lame right? For some reason it has just hasn’t happened. It’s built up a LOT of anticipation for a really special killer set, and I am not missing them this year!

13) Big Gigantic

Since their inception in 2008, Big Gigantic has been making magical moments in music with their “instrumental livetronica” consisting of part EDM, part Hip-Hop, and plenty of funk and jazz. Watch for collaborations galore on Sunday Night in the Red Barn as well, as “Big Gigantic and Friends” throw down a festival-closing party with Griz, Cherub and others…

12) John Wayne & The Pain

These guys are a personal favorite relating to my old days college of being one of the very few brave bands who would make the trip to Grand Forks, ND. Not only was it cool that these guys would make the trip, but they alsways kicked ass! This band is as real as it gets as they share real experiences of life and the struggle of drug addiction.

11) Bone Jugs N Harmony

Saw these guys last year in 2014 and they totally blew me away every time I saw them.. Yes, I said every time. Along with their performances onstage, they also get down on the paths in the “Wook Woods.” Make sure to keep an ear open for them Jugs a’ Blowin and their ribcage rattlin’ xylophone sound!

10) EOTO

img_7142 copy This improve on-the-spot electronic jam band consisting of Michael Travis and Jason Hann of The String Cheese Incident has made every appearance at Summer Camp since 2009. Every show is unique to the energy of the present time creating their jams as they go. Since it’s a new set every time, it creates the excitement to not miss them either!!

9) Keller Williams & Grateful Grass

Keller Williams and his stoney guitar wizardry return to Summer Camp Music Festival this year for a special treat of “Grateful Grass” which has been noted as being loose interpretations of Grateful Dead songs done in a bluegrass style. All in honor of the Grateful Dead’s 50th Anniversary.

8) The Motet

This Denver powerhouse funk group brings honor to the genre in every way possible. If you really like to dance to a relentless funky groove then these are your guys. Super stoked they are making their way back!

7) Greensky Bluegrass

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD99z6REUic This five-piece American bluegrass band from Kalamazoo, MI has been keeping the genre fresh since 2000. They just keep getting better and better, and I am ecstatic that they are bringing their essence back to Summer Camp for a 5th time! 6) Violent Femmes This band ought to bring some personality to Summer Camp this year, as they play radio savvy punk hits like “Blister In The Sun” and “Add It Up.” The Femmes were certainly a piece of my childhood that I am very excited to re-live…. if you are a girl with big hands, I am looking for you this year at Summer Camp! 🙂

5) Steve Miller Band

This is no joke… The Joker is coming to Three Sisters Park for a performance that may just rival last year’s afternoon with Zac Brown Band!

4) Nahko & Medicine for the People

img_3885_edited-2 This will be my 6th Nahko & MFTP in a little over a year. I absolutely love their tunes and can nearly sing along to each song word-for-word. One of my favorite bands to photograph as well, I can feel that this will certainly be another special healing show that I cannot pass on.

3) STS9

This will be my third time seeing STS9 making their way to no. 3 on the list. They are scheduled for a Saturday Late-Night Red Barn show that is not to be missed. I certainly recommend spending the extra cash on that. Those shows get extra crazy and these guys are certainly gonna be at the top of their game for that one.

2) Umphrey’s Mcgee

These guys are Summer Camp vet mainstays that always bring their A-Game to the festival. This year they will be playing 5 sets in just 2 days, with Friday featuring a special GODBONER MEETS GENE WEEN performance.

1) MOE.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs1C5DJGy6s How can we forget the band that has been with this festival since it’s inception 15 incredible years ago? Summer Camp has evolved with the band, and they are both getting better and better, year after year. Similar to Umphrey’s Mcgee, these guys will be laying out 5 sets over the weekend, but of course will be spreading it out over the full 3 days. Friday will also feature special treat – a Late Night Show in the Red Barn that I will not miss! I mean come on!!! It’s MOE.!!!!]]>
