As you may have heard, our friend and fellow Camp Counselor Jason Turngren has fallen on hard times these past few weeks after suffering a traumatic brain aneurysm. One complication after another has kept him from bouncing back quickly, and even after many surgeries and expensive tests, Jason still has a long way to go before he is fully recovered. This has been weighing heavily on all of us Camp Counselors, and much of the Summer Camp Community. A quick introduction for the few of you who may not have met Jason before… like most of us Camp Counselors, Jason’s love for Summer Camp blossomed years ago along with his love of Umphrey’s McGee. A founder at Umphreaks Anonymous, he graduated from high school with a Summer Camp wristband around his arm, and went on to apply to be a Camp Counselor in 2014. He’d claimed becoming a Summer Camp Counselor in 2014 was like a dream come true, so it’s been no surprise that he’s been a fantastic Counselor in every way. His love for our community is fueled by his relentless passion for music, and we can’t wait to have him back at a show with us soon.
Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time, and this year’s Summer Camp just won’t be the same without him. When it became clear that Jason wouldn’t be able to join us, we knew we had to do something to bring his spirit to Three Sisters Park and let him know we’re thinking of him, as well as help offset what are sure to be some VERY considerable medical costs. So, together with Summer Camp MAKE A DIFFERENCE and Amazeballs Amusements, we will be hosting a special Hole-In-One Putting Challenge event his honor! The special event will take place on Sunday at the festival from 2:45 to 4:15 PM. You can participate (AND SUPPORT JASON!) during that time by playing 1-putt-for-$5 or 5-putts-for-$20, with proceeds raised going to the GoFundMe page set up to support Jason. Summer Camp 2016 tickets will be up for grabs, and rumor has it there may even be some special artist appearances during this fundraiser… The Amazeballs Amusements mini-golf course will be located near the SOULSHINE Make A Difference area between the Sunshine and Moonshine Stages. It will be open DAILY from 10 AM to 6 PM during the festival, and will be offering a FREE TO PLAY 15-hole course as well as the above Hole-In-One Putting Challenge throughout the weekend, so be sure to stop by and get in a few practice shots before our special challenge in support of Camp Counselor Jason on Sunday Afternoon!]]>We cant wait to see you 2 weeks @summercampfest #SCamp15
