If you’re trying to pass the time as quickly as possible like me, here are 15 things you can do while waiting patiently for everyone’s favorite weekend!
-
Go take a look at the lineup and pick some artists that you know nothing about. Make a playlist of these artists and use this as an opportunity to discover some new music!
-
Take that playlist (as well as another one with some of your favorite artists on this years line up) load them up on your phone, slap on your headphones and go for a peaceful walk while daydreaming of Three Sisters Park!
-
Make a list of items you want to bring this year! Sure, it’s early, but you may discover something that needs replaced, and if you do it now there will be plenty of time to shop around. For ideas, check out Camp Counselor Alex’s 15 items to bring to Summer Camp.
-
Create some Summer Camp art and share it on the wall of the Summer Camp Facebook Group we Camp Counselors manage! All you need is your imagination, and some paint or crayons, and your phone’s camera! We would love to see whatever comes to mind, especially if it’s about Summer Camp! Who knows, we may even discover the next Van Gogh…
-
If you haven’t already, find something cool to do with your past Summer Camp bracelets (as well as any other festival bracelets you have around). I have a wall in my room dedicated to festivals memories – it’s covered with photos, posters, bracelets and more.
I also put some of my bracelets right on my festival backpack!
-
Everyone has their main festival crew right? Well get them all together, blast your favorite tunes and have a tie-dying night. It’s always a good way to get everyone together and an awesome way to make something cool to wear as a group this Memorial Day Weekend!
-
Always wanted to learn hooping? Now’s the time! There are tons of instructional videos for FREE on YouTube… and hey, you have to start somewhere, right?
-
Register for Field Day and start practicing with your Crew! For those that don’t know, Field Day consists of 4 teams: Red, Yellow, Blue, and Purple! The Field Day Champions win a keg party (with root beer for SCampers under 21!) and their team is inscribed on the Summer Camp Cup trophy. The winning flag flies at at the fest and online till the next Summer Camp Field Day champs are crowned. For more information and to register, click here.

Make prints of your photos from past Summer Camp’s, and then put them together to make a photo collage! You can even pick up some foam core and put all the photos on there… or combine what I said in #4 and draw on the board as well! Make it your own, and be sure to share your final product and tag @SummerCampFest on Instagram!!
-
One of my favorite things about Summer Camp is all the amazing food! Grab some of your crew and everyone make something you enjoy from some of the Summer Camp vendors! Try and replicate some of the pizzas, nachos, tacos and anything else you enjoy!
BONUS POINTS – Listen to moe. cover “In The Kitchen” by Umphrey’s McGee at last years Summer Camp while you cook.

Have a campfire! Even if it’s still cold where you are living – winter fires are awesome! Better yet, take that playlist you created and some 312 for an “almost like you’re there” Summer Camp experience!
-
If you can get together with those you’ll be camping with, figure out a theme for this year’s campsite – then go all out to decorate it! It’ll make your home base easy to find during the festival, and it’s a great way to even meet new friends when they too start to use your area as a landmark!
-
Ladddddieeees – arrive prepared with all the glitter, comfortable shoes, and everything else you’ll need to do Summer Camp in style! Go grab your friends and go shopping for some awesome festival looks.
BONUS POINTS: Grab some body paint! You can have a night with your friends and practice some pretty awesome designs!!
-
Get your crew together and gather up some index cards and coloring markers. Write only positive and inspiring messages on them, then bring them to Summer Camp and hand them out to people. The smile on their face as well as yours is well worth it! Spreading positivity and love is so much what music festivals are about! It’s also a good way to make new friends! I have even gotten gifts in return!

Last but not least – if you’re having a bad day, turn that frown upside-down and just meditate for a few moments. Let your mind wander to the good times ahead, the memories you’ve made, and smile. 🙂
For me, simply thinking about past experiences is enough to stay warm.
