My musical highlight of the day had to be when Umphrey’s covered the song Debra by Beck. They even threw in some horns and fireworks to give us quite a romantic moment in the midst of all the mud.
Sound Tribe’s late night barn set was one of the most sought after sets of the weekend. While I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I spent most of my evening trying to untangle a gnarly dread that was forming in the back of my hair. This is one of the many things that comes along with festival life. If you have long hair and are not showering at a fest, it is important to remember that you will eventually have to go back into the real world. For someone like me, dreads are not an acceptable hairstyle at my work place. The minute I discovered this ridiculous knot, it had to be untangled.
Since I’m a CIT, I was able to meet a ton of artists yesterday too! I got to talk with Allie Kral, Karl Denson, and Chicago Farmer. I also met members of The Coop, This Must Be the Band, Brainchild, Caravan of Thieves, and Roster McCabe! This is a Summer Camp first for me, I have never been able to hang out with so many of my favorite musicians in such a short time frame. While it usually isn’t my style to bother artists, I must say it was pretty baller to feel comfortable enough to just go up to them and ask for a picture or an interview.
One more day of music to go and tons more to see. I promise I won’t let this rain get in the way of covering as much of this amazing festival as I possible can!
